The Further Education and Training Awards Council (Irish: Comhairle na nDmhachtain Breisoideachais agus Oilina) or FETAC was a statutory qualification-awarding body for further education in Ireland.
QQI is an amalgamation of the previously operational Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC); the Higher Education and Training Awards Council (HETAC); the Irish Universities Quality Board (IUQB) and the National Qualifications Authority of Ireland (NQAI).
A level 4 FETAC award is typically associated with introductory level employment. Level 4 award holders have demonstrated the ability to act responsibly and independently and can solve familiar problems well both independently and as part of a group. A FETAC level 4 award equates to leaving certificate standard.
A typical FETAC level 5 course would be made up of 8 components (subjects/modules) also known as minor awards. Here is an example:5 vocational (mandatory and electives)2 general studies1 work experience. These 8 components would be worth 15 credits each to give a total available credits of 120 (8 x 15 = 120 credits)
