If youre wondering, Can I eat potatoes before a SIBO test? or Can I have olive oil before a SIBO test? As a rule, no. Potatoes are high in starch and fiber. A small amount of olive oil may not interfere with test results, but its best to stick with the plain proteins and broth.
There are very few risks associated with hydrogen breath testing. Some patients may experience diarrhea, gas, abdominal cramping, or bloating during or shortly after the test. This is not harmful and usually resolves itself within a day or so following the test. Nausea and vomiting have been reported.
The QuinTron breath test is a diagnostic procedure used to analyze the gases present in the digestive tract by measuring their level of concentration in the patients breath. At Hattiesburg GI Associates, PLLC, we evaluate individuals breath samples for three types of gas: hydrogen, methane, and carbon dioxide.
According to them, a test is considered positive when the Hydrogen increases by 20ppm, the Methane by 12ppm, or the combined by 15ppm. Only when the results show a change greater than these numbers will it show as positive on the final test report.
