How can you care for yourself at home? Rest when you feel tired. Try to walk each day. Avoid strenuous activities, such as bicycle riding, jogging, weight lifting, or aerobic exercise, until your doctor says it is okay. Avoid lifting anything that would make you strain. You may also have some shoulder or back pain.
Concentrate on fluids. It is important to stay hydrated. ✓ Do NOT drink alcohol, drive or operate heavy machinery for 24 hours after your surgery or while taking pain medication ✓ Do NOT do heavy lifting (nothing more than a gallon of milk) for 6 weeks after your surgery if you have an incision.
These discharge criteria include absence of fever (for 12 or 24 h), ability to tolerate oral intake, adequate pain control with oral analgesics, and a normal white blood cell (WBC) count.
No lifting, pushing, or pulling anything greater than 10 pounds for 2 weeks following surgery. You may resume driving 24 hours following surgery. No sexual intercourse, tampons, or douching for 3 weeks following surgery. You may shower anytime after returning home.
DO NOT drive a car for 48 hours after your laparoscopy, because the anaesthesia causes drowsiness. You dont need to stay in bed, but its best to rest and take it easy for the remainder of the day. After 24 hours, there is no limit on your physical activity as long as youre not taking narcotic medication.
