The Judge Advocate General of the United States Army (TJAG) is the senior officer of the Judge Advocate Generals Corps of the United States Army. Under Title 10 of the United States Code, the TJAG is appointed by the President of the United States with the advice and consent of the Senate.
They qualify with a pistol and are issued one as well. Having a POW (Privately owned weapon) is common in the Army. JAG Officers are lawyers but are also in the Law enforcement community. I used to see them on the pistol range more than they had to be.
Currently, the JAG is appointed as a three-star vice admiral or lieutenant general while holding office and the DJAG is currently appointed as a two-star rear admiral or a major general.
The headquarters of the Judge Advocate Generals Corps of the United States Department of the Navy is located at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, D.C.
