To report a release or spill, contact the federal governments centralized reporting center, the National Response Center (NRC) , at 1-800-424-8802. The NRC is staffed 24 hours a day by personnel who will ask you to provide as much information about the incident as possible.
If a hazardous substance is released to the environment in an amount that equals or exceeds its reportable quantities, it must be reported immediately to the National Response Center 24-hour hotline at (800) 424-8802. State reporting requirements must also be followed.
Spillages on roads and motorways can cause serious accidents and should be reported to the Department for Infrastructure immediately. The police and fire service may need to be involved when its oil, diesel and other hazardous substances spillages, as road closures may be needed.
You may submit a public record request either with the online form (using the blue button below) or in writing using the NDEP Public Records Request Form (available below). After receiving the request, the Records Request Coordinator will forward it to the appropriate NDEP program.
Generally, all spills over five gallons must be reported. Although the requirements relate to hazardous waste, the department considers any material when spilled to be a waste.
