On October 14, 2013, the International Herald Tribune appeared on newsstands for the last time and ceased publication. In October 2016, the NYTs international edition was renamed The New York Times International Edition.
All the daily New York papers in the 1960s were members of the Publishers Association, which conducted union negotiations. They were the New York Times, the New York Herald Tribune, the New York Journal-American, the World Telegram and Sun, the New York Mirror, the Daily News and the New York Post.
In 1924 the Herald thus disappeared into the New York Herald-Tribune, which was a voice of moderate Republicanism and competent journalism for the next four decades. The paper began to decline after Ogden Reids death in 1947, however, and financial difficulties led to its closure in 1966.
It merged with two other struggling New York papers, the Journal American and the World Telegram and the Sun to form the World Journal Tribune , which began publishing September 12, 1966 after a lengthy strike. It ceased publication May 5, 1967.
His work for the Tribune came about because hed met an American newspaper editor, Charles Dana (who would later go on to edit the New York Sun) in Cologne in 1848, and a few years later Dana asked Marx to contribute some articles to the New York Tribune on the situation in Germany.
