  5. For lines 5 and 6, enter your tax due before credits and any credits claimed prior to this one, respectively. Calculate your net tax by subtracting line 6 from line 5 and enter it on line 7.
  6. On line 8, indicate the amount of credit used for the current year, which should be the lesser of line 4 or line 7. Finally, calculate any remaining credit available for carryover to next year on line 9.
