A DSO may not refuse to transfer the SEVIS record of any student accepted by another school certified by SEVP for reasons that include, but are not limited to, financial or business reasons. SEVIS records are government property.
You are eligible to request a SEVIS record transfer during the 60-day grace period following your program completion. However, remember to allow for ISS processing; contact ISS at least 3 weeks before the end of your 60-day grace period to request the SEVIS transfer.
Students can work on campus only at the school that controls their SEVIS record. With a DSOs permission, students can work on campus at the transfer-out school until the transfer release date.
Remember: It takes two or three business days to process your I-901 SEVIS fee payment.
Assuming all materials are submitted, updating the record takes a minute or two. The actual processing time depends on how fast or slow you submit the required materials and the processing time for the school/schools.
