After an insurer determines a car is a total loss, it issues a salvage certificate. You will no longer be able to register the vehicle or drive it on public roads until it is refurbished and passes an inspection. At that point, it can be issued a rebuilt title.
Connecticut doesnt require vehicle titles for model years more than 20 years older than the current year. In that case, the last owners registration, a Supplemental Assignment of Ownership Form Q-1, and/or Bill of Sale Form H-31 are all a buyer needs to register a non-titled car in Connecticut.
As a car with a salvage title isnt considered roadworthy, you typically wont be able to get insurance unless the vehicle is rebuilt and passes safety inspections. But even then, many car insurance companies dont provide coverage for cars with rebuilt titles.
Keep in mind that some insurers will only sell liability insurance for rebuilt, meaning that they wont pay for any physical damage to the vehicle. Even if you are able to get collision and comprehensive insurance, your policy may not cover the full value of the car if its totaled again.

People also ask

A salvage stamp on a title means that the vehicle has been in an accident and the insurance company declared it was a total loss. Once this occurs, the vehicle cant be insured. It also cant be registered or driven in Connecticut.
If you rebuild the salvaged vehicle, you should re-title it. Before you re-titled it, it needs to first pass a salvage inspection. Note: If the title is branded salvage parts only or salvage unrebuildable or salvage unrepairable, the vehicle cant be registered or re-titled under any circumstances.
How to sell your vehicle without a title: Request and complete a Supplemental Assignment of Ownership Form (Form Q1). This form is also available at your local DMV office. Without this form, we are unable to transfer ownership.
