Form CT‑W4P provides your payer with the necessary information to withhold the correct amount of Connecticut income tax from your pension or annuity payment to ensure that you will not be underwithheld or overwithheld.
Nonperiodic Payments: Payers are required to withhold 6.99% unless the payee completes Form CT-W4P and claims exemption from withholding or specifies a dollar amount to withhold.
You must begin withholding at the highest marginal rate of 6.99%, from each employee who claimed exempt status from Connecticut income tax withholding in the prior year and who did not provide a new Form CT-W4 on or before February 15 of the current year. See Employees Claiming Exemption on Page 10.
In 2023 the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) revised its pensions and annuity withholding certificate, Form W-4P, to reflect new withholding rules.
The Connecticut W4 (CT-W4) contains a unique data field on line 3 - Reduced withholding amount per pay period. Enter a negative amount on line 3 to reduce withholding. This particular field shares the same mapping properties as line 2 - Additional withholding amount per pay period.
