Defined Benefit Program Under the CalSTRS Funding Plan, the Teachers Retirement Board has limited rate-setting authority to adjust the employer contribution rate up or down by no more than 1% per year up to a maximum contribution rate of 20.25%.
You can increase your retirement benefit by increasing any part of the formulayour service credit, your age factor or your final compensation. For example, you can increase your service credit by working longer or purchasing permissive service credit, if youre eligible to do so.

Your Defined Benefit Supplement funds will continue to earn interest during this waiting period.
CalSTRS makes these payments to retired members and beneficiaries whose benefits have fallen below a certain level of purchasing power, subject to the availability of funds. The purchasing power protection level is currently set at 85% of your initial benefit (base allowance).
