The area is free of flammable and combustible liquids and materials (e.g., dust, lint, wood, and oil deposits), and chemical hazards or is located at least 35 feet from the work site or protected by fire- resistant curtains, pads, or blankets.
Hot work means work involving electric or gas welding, cutting, brazing, or similar flame or spark-producing operations (68.3). Facilities that perform hot work operations conducted on or near a covered process shall issue a hot work permit, and it must be kept on file until hot work operations are completed.
Hot work is any work that involves burning, welding, cutting, brazing, soldering, grinding, using fire- or spark-producing tools, or other work that produces a source of ignition.
