Message from Head of School, Robbie Pennoyer.
Since its founding as an Episcopal Schoolone open to students of all faiths and students of no faith at allGrace Church School has believed that it is central to our mission to, as Robbie Pennoyer said the other day to a reporter, recognize the dignity and worth common to humanity.
When you finally learn that a persons behavior has more to do with their own internal struggle, you learn grace. Allison Aars In other words, its not personal. Its never personal.
It means dignified, polite, and decent behavior. In a Montessori environment, it also implies thoughtfulness, concentration, poise, and economy of movement. The word courtesy comes from the word cour, meaning heart. It means politeness that shows consideration for other people.
Be generous with grace. One of the best things I learned over the years was to be sure students knew their slate was clean with me each day. It can be done subtly, like engaging a student in a conversation before class begins that has nothing to do with his/her disciplinary issue the day before.
