The enhanced Student GIC Program enables students to open a GIC with a smaller investment amount and use it as proof of financial support for their study visa application. Students can access their funds upon arrival in Canada and, have an option to choose to invest it securely in a GIC solution.
Is there a limit on the amount of cash that I can withdraw at a branch? Yes. You may withdraw cash over $5,000. For cash withdrawals less than $5,000 you must use the ATM.

From the Investment details GIC page, select Cash out GIC to my account. You will be prompted to confirm that you are about to change the maturity instructions for the GIC. Note that when the GIC matures, the funds will be cashed out to the Cash portion of your investment plan account. Click Confirm to proceed.

With some GICs, you pay a penalty to get your money before the end of the term. Other GICs called cashable or redeemable GICs allow you to get your money back at any time with no penalty. You can hold GICs in registered investment accounts like RRSPs, RRIFs and TFSAs.
