How Do I Apply? You should contact your states unemployment insurance program as soon as possible after becoming unemployed. Generally, you should file your claim with the state where you worked. When you file a claim, you will be asked for certain information, such as addresses and dates of your former employment.

You may be denied benefits if you become unemployed for reasons other than lack of work. If you quit your job without good cause, you will be denied benefits until you work and earn an amount equal to or greater than eight times your benefit rate and are unemployed through no fault of your own.
The maximum length of regular unemployment benefits is 26 weeks. Partial UI benefits can extend beyond the typical 26 week maximum. If you are denied benefits and disagree with the decision you may appeal the decision and must do so in writing within fifteen (15) days to the Board of Review.
