What is the new tax deadline for Alabama? The IRS announced on Monday that residents of Alabama qualify for an extension because of storms that brought tornadoes and flooding through the state. Instead of filing by the April 15 deadline, Alabama residents now have until May 1, 2025, to file and pay.
Taxpayers and electronic return originators (EROs) use this form to send any required paper forms or supporting documentation listed next to the checkboxes on the front of the form. Form 8453 is used solely to transmit the forms listed on the front of the form. Do not send Forms W-2, W-2G, or 1099-R.
If you know you cant file your return by the due date, you dont need to file for an extension. You will automatically be granted an extension until October 15, 2025.
Do I need to file an extension (Form 4868)? If you expect to owe federal taxes and cannot meet the mid-April filing deadline, its important to file an extension to avoid a late filing penalty. However, keep in mind: Extensions must be filed by the original April deadline (typically April 15).
Most states dont require you to file separate state extension forms if you dont owe any additional taxes. When you file your state return, you only need to attach a copy of your federal extension form.
