Praxis CORE Education Program Requirement Removed by BESE. THIBODAUX, La. BESE, The Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, removed the requirement that prospective teachers have to pass the Praxis CORE Exam prior to being admitted into a teacher education program.
You may take it when you graduate with your bachelors, when you begin a teaching program, or after you begin teaching. If your degree is in your subject, you may not have to take it at all. The Praxis Core is more of a college entrance test, like the SAT.
Prior to licensure, you must achieve passing scores on other Virginia Board of Education-approved professional teachers assessments. Praxis Subject Assessments are required for specific licensure and endorsement areas.
Virginia requires educators to pass two exams: the Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessment (VCLA) and the Praxis Subject Assessment from the Praxis Series of exams. The Praxis Subject Assessment will vary depending on your endorsement area and intended grade level.
If you are an undergraduate student interested in becoming a teacher, youll likely need to take the Praxis Core test. If youre a career changer who already has a degree, your Educator Prep Program may require you to take the Praxis Core as well.
