In a security reopening, the U.S. Treasury issues additional amounts of a previously issued security. The reopened security has the same maturity date and coupon interest rate or spread as the original security, but with a different issue date and usually a different purchase price.
When you call, explain to the customer service representative that you would like to reopen the claim and provide the reason why. Its also important to be as specific as possible about what has changed or what new information you have that would justify reopening the claim.

The VA allows veterans to request that a previously denied claim be reopened if they can present new and relevant evidence that wasnt part of the original decision. New evidence means information the VA did not have when they first reviewed your claim.
If so, VA will reopen the claim and issue a new decision. However, if VA decides that the evidence is not new and relevant, then it will deny the request. Note that if VA does reopen a veterans claim, the veterans effective date will typically be the date the Supplemental Claim was filednot the original claim date.
