In South Dakota, a mandatory reporter is a person or entity legally required to report suspected child abuse if they have reasonable suspicion that a minor under the age of 18 is being harmed or neglected. SDCL 26-8A-3.

(10) Whose parent, guardian, or custodian knowingly exposes the child to an environment that is being used for the manufacture, use, or distribution of methamphetamines or any other unlawfully manufactured controlled drug or substance.
The results indicate that all States, the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Islands identify in statute the professionals and other persons required to report instances of suspected child maltreatment.
Any person may make a report, however, South Dakota State law requires the following persons, also referred to as mandatory reporters, to report suspected child abuse and neglect as defined in SDCL 26-8A-3. Mandatory reporters have extensive contact with children on a daily basis.
