The most effective letters of recommendation are written by professors or work supervisors who know you well enough to describe your academic, personal, or professional achievements and potential with candor, detail, and objectivity. Letters that compare you to your academic peers are often the most useful.
New first-year applicants with a cumulative GPA between 2.60-2.99 must submit ACT or SAT test scores. Those who have cumulative GPAs of 2.30-2.59 will be admitted through the Vandal Gateway Program regardless of test scores. Applicants with a GPA below 2.30 may appeal through our Admissions Committee.
To ensure your success at Boise State University, we require GED scores to be above average. We will also require additional materials such as a personal statement and letters of recommendation to determine your readiness for university level work.
A letter of recommendation describes who you are as a student, and can include your academic achievements, your efforts in the classroom, and your activities outside of school, just to name a few topics. Most colleges ask you to submit two to three letters from someone, usually from a teacher, who knows you well.

Letters of Recommendation Packet Full name. Year in school and major. Current transcript (may be a copy). Name and address of person to whom the letter should be addressed. Deadline date (important to include!). Current resume or vita including extracurricular activities.
If a student does not meet the GPA and age requirement, a recommendation from a school official is required. If high school students wish to take courses on campus through the Early College Program, they can find a list of courses available to them on the ECP website (isu.edu/ecp).
