Who is eligible for this tax credit? To be eligible for the $7,500 Multigenerational Home Renovation Tax Credit in Canada, you usually need to meet the following criteria: You must be a homeowner in Canada. The resident of the renovated unit must be a family member who is a senior or an adult with a disability.
Physicians statement. If you are under age 65, you must have your physician complete a statement docHubing that you had a permanent and total disability on the date you retired. You can use the statement in the Instructions for Schedule R.
Starting in July 2025, people with disabilities across Canada can apply to receive a new federal income supplement. Called the Canada Disability Benefit (CDB), this new program will provide up to $200 a month to eligible working-aged Canadians with disabilities.
You can apply by mail using the paper form. The person with the impairment or their legal representative must fill out Part A of the digital application form. You may fill out Part A online or by phone. You may phone the CRA and have Part A of the digital form filled out for you.
To claim the credit for the current tax year, you must enter the disability amount on your tax return. Any unused amount may be transferred to a supporting family member. It is not refunded. If you and another person support the same dependant, you can split the claim for that dependant.
