On October 4th, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) released a new version of the Disability Tax Credit (DTC) Certificate (Form T2201). The DTC is a non-refundable tax credit that helps people with disabilities or their support person reduce the amount of income tax they may have to pay.
Physician's statement. If you are under age 65, you must have your physician complete a statement certifying that you had a permanent and total disability on the date you retired. You can use the statement in the instructions for Schedule R Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled, page R-4.
Medical practitioners may complete Part B of Form T2201, Disability Tax Credit Certificate using the DTC digital application. The digital application was updated to reflect expanded eligibility criteria for mental functions and life-sustaining therapy.
