The first difference is that a CMA gets certified from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) and a CCMA gets certified through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
Employers dont really mind where you are certified from, so long that they are aware of the certification being legitimate. And yes, CCMA is 100% legit and valid.
While some employers may prefer medical assistants to have certification from a specific certifying body, most states dont prefer one or the other as both are nationally recognized certifications .
To better ensure continuing competency and knowledge and thus better protect patients, CMAs (AAMA) are required to recertify every 60 months.
No fee to enter the program and submit documentation for review to determine eligibility. Once eligibility is confirmed, the following exam fees apply: $125 AAMA members. $250 nonmembers.
