With Amazon EC2 instance store-backed AMIs, each time you customize an AMI and create a new one, all of the parts are stored in Amazon S3 for each AMI.
No, it is not possible to retrieve the instances that have been deleted once. If it has been stopped, it can be retrieved back by simply starting it again.
Share an AMI (console) In the navigation pane, choose AMIs. Select your AMI in the list, and then choose Actions, Edit AMI permissions. Choose Private. Under Shared accounts, choose Add account ID. For AWS account ID, enter the AWS account ID with which you want to share the AMI, and then choose Share AMI.
Resolution Launch a replacement EC2 instance using Amazon EBS snapshots or Amazon Machine Images (AMI) backups that were created from the terminated Amazon EC2 instance. Attach an EBS volume from the terminated instance to another EC2 instance. You can then access the data contained in those volumes.
AMIs are region specific. If you want to use an AMI from another region, you need to copy the AMI and select the destination region.
Its not possible to move an existing instance to another subnet, Availability Zone, or VPC. Instead, you can manually migrate the instance by creating a new Amazon Machine Image (AMI) from the source instance. Then, launch a new instance using the new AMI in the desired subnet, Availability Zone, or VPC.
To store an AMI (AWS CLI) Use the create-store-image-task command. Specify the ID of the AMI and the name of the S3 bucket in which to store the AMI.
To restore a deleted snapshot from the Recycle Bin using the AWS CLI. Use the restore-snapshot-from-recycle-bin AWS CLI command. For --snapshot-id , specify the ID of the snapshot to restore.
The easiest way to save an AMI with new modificationa, is to create the AMI image directly from the running instance, and not simply take a snapshot of the running volume. From the AWS Management Console, click on the instance, then right-click Image - Create Image. From that dialog, set the Name, Description etc.
Navigate to the backup vault that was selected in the backup plan and select the latest completed backup. To restore the EC2 instance, click on the recovery point ARN and select the Restore button.
