Thank you for supporting my channel! zuwaiL, Ruixing Yang and Prince Safo! Hi everyone! In this video I just wanted to teach you some basic phrases in Finnish revolving around the theme: Asking for directions! A basic question that you can ask if you are looking for something ora little bit lost is: miss on? = Where is ? miss on? = Where is ? You can insertwhatever you are looking for into that blank spot. Where isthe bank? Where is the library? Where is the Paavo Nurmi statue? miss on? = Where is ? And keepin mind in puhekieli this can be also mis on? Where is the bank? Where is the library? Where is the Paavo Nurmi statue? miss on? = Where is ? If you want to sound a little morepolite, I would recommend starting out your question with anteeksi For example if youre tryingto get a strangers attention you can start off by being: Hei! Anteeksi = Hey, sorry / excuse me So using this anteeksi start Another way

Finns have typically 2-3 given names: a first name and 1-2 middle names. The first name is usually short and the middle name has three or more syllables: Matti Juhani, Maija Meri Tuulikki. The reverse order would sound clumsy to a Finnish ear.
The most common Finnish-language surnames include Korhonen, Virtanen, Nieminen, Mkinen, Hmlinen, Koskinen, Heikkinen and Jrvinen. Yes, this land loves its nen suffix, a sure way to recognise a Finnish surname. More than a third of all Finns have surnames ending in -nen.
Finnish is our language and Suomi is the word for Finland in Finnish. It is only natural for us to use the name of our country in our own language.
In Finland, a person must have a surname and at least one given name with up to three given names permitted. Surnames are inherited either patrilineally or matrilineally, while given names are usually chosen by a persons parents.
Patronymic surnames were common throughout Finland, but most people in western Finland used only a patronymic surname. Patronymic surnames are based on the fathers given name. Swedish patronymics end with -sson (son) or -dotter (daughter).
More than a third of all Finns have surnames ending in -nen. Though the Finnish suffix nen is normally a diminutive, in surnames it more often signifies belonging to a place where a family lived. Virtanen could literally mean small stream, but the surname was devised to mean a family living near a stream.
