hi thanks for joining us today uh this video is going to be a little different than what we usually do i usually try to focus on one topic and keep it somewhat bite-sized but one of our most common questions requires a lot of explanation which is how do you buy tax properties in alabama with all the changing laws and the and the systems being in flux between the old system which was tax certificates tax deeds and the new system which are tax liens so instead of trying to break this up we're just going to hit it head on and cover uh five ways that you can buy alabama tax properties in 2022 which is where the inventory stand today and uh we're going to cover a lot of different ground here but we're not going to cover a few things that also work notably if you've heard of something called like cash for keys or negotiating a quit claim with an owner we're not going to cover that because it doesn't apply to just alabama that's not even just a tax property thing that's that's a bigger topic...

Under a single sales factor formula, the share of a corporations total profit that a particular state would tax would be based solely on the share of the corporations nationwide sales occurring in the state.
The biggest driver of Alabamas upside-down tax system is its heavy reliance on sales taxes to raise revenue for public services. That story is similar in many other states, but sales taxes in Alabama are particularly regressive because it is one of only three states with no tax break on groceries.
What is the standard Alabama apportionment formula? For tax years beginning before January 1, 2021, all business income of a corporation is apportioned to Alabama using a three-factor apportionment formula made up of property, payroll, and twice the sales. The income of a corporation is multiplied by a fraction.
Alabama does well to repeal its throwback rule. The state also retroactively excludes from taxation Global Intangible Low-Tax Income (GILTI), which was included by default following the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA).
These changes are effective for tax years beginning on or after Jan. 1, 2021. The bill retains the current throw out rule, which excludes from the Alabama sales factor sales of services and intangibles to a state where the taxpayer is not taxable.
As a reminder, throwback rules make sure corporations pay taxes on all of their business profits. Throwback states include: Alabama. Alaska. Arkansas. California. Colorado. Hawaii. Idaho. Illinois.
You must wait at least 24 hours after you get the acknowledgment e-mail that your tax return was received by the IRS. Your e-filed return was accepted (received) by the IRS less than 24 hours ago. Wait at least 24 hours after acceptance before using WMR. Your return is still pending.
The throwback tax was enacted by New York to address a perceived abuse in the case of nongrantor trusts qualifying for the New York Resident Trust Exception that accumulate income and distribute such income to New York resident beneficiaries in subsequent years effectively free of New York income tax.
Allow at least six weeks after filing your return, then check the status of your refund using one of the following sources: 1) go to our website at .myalabamataxes.alabama.gov, 2) call our 24-hour toll-free refund hotline at 1-855-894-7391, or 3) call our daytime refund status line at 334-309-2612.
The throwback rule is a statute that states can adopt and use to ensure corporations pay their state taxes on 100% of their profits. Every state that levies a corporate income tax must determine, for each company doing business within its borders, how much of the companys profits it can tax.
