How should ODT tablets be taken?

Instead, gently peel back the foil backing and remove the tablet. Immediately place the tablet on top of the tongue. The tablet will dissolve in seconds, and you may swallow it with your saliva. You do not need to drink water or other liquid to swallow the tablet.

Will a dissolvable pill still work if you swallow it?

Place the medication under your tongue and leave it there until its dissolved. The amount of time it takes to dissolve may vary from one medication to the next. Avoid swallowing the tablet while you wait for it to dissolve. If you swallow the tablet, it wont work as quickly and it may not have the desired effect.

Can you break ODT in half?

A: Its not typically recommended, as crushing or splitting an ODT can disrupt the intended disintegration and absorption process and potentially affect the medications efficacy and safety. It depends on the formulation, but crushing or splitting an ODT is typically not recommended.

How is ODT absorbed?

Once disintegrated, an easy-to-swallow residue is left behind and the medication will be absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. ODTs are different to conventional sublingual and buccal tablets, which are absorbed directly through the oral mucosa.

Do sublingual medications work if swallowed?

For patients taking the sublingual (under-the-tongue) tablets: Dissolve the tablet under your tongue. The sublingual tablet should not be chewed or swallowed, since it works much faster when absorbed through the lining of the mouth.

Will Ondansetron work if swallowed?

It works by blocking one of the bodys natural substances (serotonin) that causes vomiting. Ondansetron belongs to a class of medications called 5-HT3 blockers. HOW TO USE: This medication is dissolved on top of the tongue. It is not meant to be chewed or swallowed like other tablet forms.

What happens if you swallow a water dissolvable tablet?

It is dangerous to swallow an effervescent tablet directly, as the tablet can get stuck in the subglottis and fizzle there. A potentially fatal edema may occur from the irritation.
