The 160-question examination is comprised of 160 single-response, multiple choice questions. 140 of the questions are scored and 20 questions are non-scored, pilot questions. You are allotted four hours (240 minutes) for the exam.
SCORES AND SCORING Your score report will be mailed to you about seven weeks after the exam date. You will receive either a PASS or FAIL notification. You must earn a scaled score of 70% to pass the American Board of Opticianry (NOCE).
A Government-issued ID is required upon entering the testing center and it is recommended that test takers arrive 30 minutes in advance. There are over 300 testing centers in the United States. Registration can be done online at the ABO website. There is also a registration fee of $225.
