A driver is required to take a written test at least once every eight years if traffic convictions have occurred. Everyone must have his or her vision screened when applying for a renewal, with the exception of Safe Driver Renewals. All persons age 75 or older must take a driving test at each renewal.
Failure to meet the DMV's vision screen standard does NOT mean the driver will automatically be denied a license. Instead, the driver will be given a Report of Vision Examination (DL 62) form for his or her eye doctor to complete and sign. The driver will then return to the DMV with the form for further evaluation.
Vision Requirements to Get a Texas License An applicant who does not wear corrective lenses must have 20/40 vision or better in both eyes. However, if he scores at least 20/50 in the best eye or both eyes together, he can get a license if he submits a statement from an eye specialist that his vision cannot be improved.
If you only have vision in one eye, you can still drive a noncommercial vehicle in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. However, to drive a noncommercial vehicle, you must still pass an eye exam, and prove that you have adequate peripheral vision for driving.
The third line is equivalent to 20/40, it is the driver's test line. You must be able to read most of the letters on this line in order to obtain an unrestricted drivers license in most states including Ohio.
