How do I know if my PSLF was approved?

If your PSLF form is approved for forgiveness, then you'll be notified that the entire remaining balance of your eligible Direct Loans will be forgiven, including all outstanding interest and principal.

How long does it take to process PSLF?

If you submitted your PSLF form to FedLoan Servicing and were notified it was received and in process, please allow up to 60 days for processing.

Do payments made before PSLF count?

Yes. Under the limited PSLF waiver, any prior payment made will count as a qualifying payment, regardless of loan type, repayment plan, or whether or not the payment was made in full or on time. All you need is qualifying employment.

Do I have to consolidate my loans for PSLF?

You will need to submit a consolidation application and a PSLF form by October 31, 2022 to ensure that payments made on loans that are not Direct Loans can be counted toward PSLF. Right now, we encourage you to consolidate before using the PSLF Help Tool to certify employment.

Do Parent PLUS loans qualify for PSLF?

Public Service Loan Forgiveness for Parent PLUS Loans Parent borrowers may be eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) after making 120 qualifying payments (ten years). Parent PLUS loans are eligible if they are in the Direct Loan program or included in a Federal Direct Consolidation Loan.
