The Magistrate Court handles claims of not more than $15,000. Any person may file a claim in Magistrate Court in his or her own name, without an attorney.
If your claim exceeds $15,000.00, then the Magistrate Court does not have jurisdiction or the legal authority to hear your case and it must be filed in another court. This limit applies to both the claim of the Plaintiff and any counterclaims of the Defendant.
