STANDARD PRE-PRELIMINARY (PPSS) The purpose of this test is to encourage beginning skaters to learn the fundamentals of ice skating. No great deal of tech- nical ability, carriage or flow is expected. The candidate must show knowledge of the steps, fairly good edges and some evidence of good form (rule 5101).
Six progressive levels introduce forward and backward skating, stops, edges, crossovers, and turns. Upon completion of the Basic Skills 1-6 levels, skaters will be able to confidently advance to more specialized areas of skating.
The basic skills are the fundamentals of the sport. These eight levels of the program introduce the fundamental moves: forward skating, backward skating, stops, edges, crossovers, turns and Mohawks.
