Recovery Dharma has its roots in Buddhist practices that are used in the addiction recovery process. Mindfulness, one of the core principles of Buddhist addiction treatment, is scientifically proven to be highly effective in not only treating addiction, also depression, anxiety, insomnia, and a host of other things.
It includes duties, rights, laws, conduct, virtues and "right way of living". In Buddhism, dharma means "cosmic law and order", as expressed by the teachings of the Buddha.
Over the next few years I helped start some meetings in the Baltimore area. When Recovery Dharma formed in July of 2019, all of our Baltimore meetings decided to switch our affiliation with this new community.
In Buddhism, dharma is the doctrine, the universal truth common to all individuals at all times, proclaimed by the Buddha. Dharma, the Buddha, and the sangha (community of believers) make up the Triratna, \u201cThree Jewels,\u201d to which Buddhists go for refuge.

When Recovery Dharma formed in July of 2019, all of our Baltimore meetings decided to switch our affiliation with this new community. I am also involved with the online sangha, and I must say I feel every bit as close to members of the national and international community as I do my homies.
The Dharma teachings of generosity, virtue, loving-kindness, and wisdom are non-partisan. The benefits of dharma teachings can be used by Republicans and Democrats, by Green Party and Libertarians, by Iraqis and Israelis. The Dharma welcomes everyone and encourages all to awaken together.
A typical meeting starts with a few short explanatory readings, then a guided meditation. Meetings will then typically do a shared reading to foster discussion, or a speaker may talk about a topic of their choice. There is also an opportunity for members of the group to share.

Recovery Dharma is a community of peers that encourages Buddhist-based recovery to addiction. This type of Buddhist addiction recovery brings together those suffering from substance use disorders. The unity and bond shared between members helps them become free from the suffering that addiction has caused.
