Why is DC getting rid of the Circulator?

The Circulator was a victim of DCs tax revenue challenges. The Circulator met a distinct need when it was created that is now also met in a variety of other ways. While WMATA has recovered from COVID, the Circulator still hasnt recovered. DC decided that ending service was the best way to solve the money problem.

What replaced the DC Circulator bus?

Both SmarTrip and CharmCard work on Metrorail, Metrobus and all Washington regional bus systems including ART, CUE, DASH, DC Circulator, Fairfax Connector, PRTC OmniRide, Ride On and TheBus; and Baltimore Metro Subway, Local Bus and Light Rail.

Why did DC end the Circulator?

The announcement cited decreasing ridership and transportation budget cuts as the reasons for ending the service. On October 1, 2024, the Rosslyn Dupont Circle route was discontinued entirely, and late night service on the Woodley Park Adams Morgan and Georgetown Union Station routes were discontinued.
