Generally, if a property owner lives in or rents out a property without obtaining a certificate of occupancy, they may face fines, legal action, and other penalties. In addition, if you dont have a certificate of occupancy, it may be difficult to obtain financing or insurance for your property.
Typical inspections include Building, Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire. You may also require a Heath Inspection from San Antonio Metropolitan Health Department. After your business successfully passes all required inspections, Development Services will issue your Certificate of Occupancy.
A Certificate of Occupancy (CO) will be provided upon a successful final inspection for new construction or docHub renovations. If, for any reason, a CO was not received, please email DSDCertificateofOccupancy@austintexas.gov to request one.
