Alzheimers disease is named after Dr. Alois Alzheimer. In 1906, Dr. Alzheimer noticed changes in the brain tissue of a woman who had died of an unusual mental illness. Her symptoms included memory loss, language problems, and unpredictable behavior.
The Massachusetts Advisory Council on Alzheimers Disease and All Other Dementias was established in August 2018 with the enactment of Chapter 220 of the Acts of 2018. The Council is charged with advising the Executive Office of Health and Human Services and the Legislature on Alzheimers disease policy.
Emil Kraepelin (18561926), a doctor in Germany, classified dementia into senile dementia and presenile dementia in 1910. He was the first to name the disease as Alzheimers disease, after Alois Alzheimer (18641915), who discovered pathological features of presenile dementia while his student.
