A dependency override review typically takes between 3 to 4 weeks from the date when the necessary documentation has been received.
Hello! Dependency overrides are tough! However if you have seen a mental health professional, or any family/friends that can write letters that can help you vouch for your situation, that would be very helpful. For me, I had my psychiatric records, a letter from my social worker, and proof that I live independently.
Additionally, if your personal circumstances change and impact your dependency status after you submit your FAFSA form, contact your schools financial aid office to ask if they have a policy that allows you to update your answers to the personal circumstance questions. The financial aid staff will tell you what to do.
During peak processing times, the request may take longer than the typical 3-4 weeks to be reviewed, but no longer than 60 days from the date when all of the above documentation has been received (or from the date the student enrolls, whichever is later).
Parents refuse to contribute to the students education; Parents are unwilling to provide information on the application or for verification; Parents do not claim the student as a dependent for income tax purposes; Student demonstrates total self-sufficiency.
