When claiming Veterans Preference, you must provide a copy of your DD-214, certificate of release or discharge from active duty or other acceptable documentation. Applicants claiming 10-point preference will need to submit Form SF-15 or other acceptable documentation.
The SF-15 is used by Federal agencies to adjudicate an individuals claims for veterans preference. Veterans and certain family members who claim 10-point preference must fill out and submit the SF-15, to include supporting documentation when applying for Federal positions.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Only veterans discharged or released from active duty in the armed forces under honorable conditions are eligible for veterans preference. This means you must have been discharged under an honorable or general discharge. Receipt of a campaign badge, Purple Heart, or a service-connected disability.
Submission of SF-15 is not required, unless you are claiming derived preference (XP) as described in questions 7, 8, or 9 on the SF-15. In those cases, you must submit a completed SF-15 and the required documentation.
