With respect to the general welfare of the university, the Faculty Senate shall serve as the major legislative, advisory, and review body of the faculty. It shall investigate, debate, and communicate to the faculty those matters deemed to be in the best interests of the university.
Academic Senate means an organization whose primary function is to make recommendations with respect to academic and professional matters. Academic and professional matters means the following policy development matters: Curriculum, including establishing prerequisites. Degree and certificate requirements.
Senates role Maintaining the quality and standards of the Universitys awards. The promotion of research. Oversight of the work of the Senate Standing Committees. Approving the award of degrees, including honorary degrees; and approving the conferment of Emeritus status on retiring professors.
The Faculty Senate of Howard University is made up of all full time faculty. The Faculty are the guardians of the institution and share governance with the Board of Trustees, the President, and designated Administrators.
The Faculty Senate provides a forum for faculty, administration, students, and staff to collaborate and share views on academic matters. Through engaging dialogue, the Faculty Senate ensures that the needs of each stakeholder group are heard and receive fair consideration.
