How much manure should be spread per acre?

You expect the soybean yield to be about 60 bushels per acre (this is the typical yield you get from this field). If you multiply 60 bushels per acre by 3.5 lbs of N per bushel, you will find that the crop will take up 210 lbs of N. This means you can apply a manure rate of 210 lbs of PAN per acre.

How much does manure spreading cost?

The custom rate guide lists the cost per 1,000 gallons at $10 to $15 for dragline application with an average charge of $11.65 per 1,000 gallons. At a fairly standard application rate of 12,000 gallons per acre, that would be $139.80 per acre in manure application costs.

How much does manure transport cost?

The results indicated that at one mile the average price was $0.013 per gallon of manure applied. A regression equation fit the data well indicating that the manure application cost was about $0.01 per gallon and indicate that there would be a cost of about $0.0035 per gallon per mile the manure is hauled.

The cost to haul and apply manure will vary but can be around 2 per gallon. In this example, that application will cost you in the ballpark of $90 per acre, still leaving a net value of $202 per acre. That is a lot of potential value that farmers are especially happy to have this year.

How do you spread manure on a field?

A tractor and a manure spreader are needed to ensure proper field application of stored manure. Some small farms may be able to utilize small ground-driven spreaders that can be pulled behind an all-terrain vehicle or pickup instead of a tractor.
