Within each state, the State 4-H Program Office and Cooperative Extension Service has the designated authority for state and local 4-H youth development programs.
Oklahoma 4-H is dedicated to helping Oklahoma youth, families and communities docHub their full potential. Through our hands-on programming, projects and events, our members are making a tangible difference in their clubs, communities, state and world.
In 1908 W. D. Bentley, a pioneer of university extension work in Oklahoma, set up headquarters in Tishomingo to help fledgling ranchers and farmers improve harvests. The 4-H idea in Oklahoma took root when Bentley enrolled fifty boys from across Johnston County to be part of a Boys Corn Club in 1909.
With the support of adult mentors, youth select from a menu of hands-on project ideas to complete. 4‑H programs are available for children ages 8-18. 4‑H Cloverbud programs are available for children ages 5-7.
Youth may enroll in 4-H on August 1 if they are 8 AND in the 3rd grade on September 1. If they turn 8 after September 1 and are in 3rd grade, they will not be eligible to enroll as a 4-H member until the next 4-H year, but they may participate as a Cloverbud.
