The Bottom Line. A student is considered to be full-time for financial aid, scholarships, and for administrative housekeeping if they complete 12 hours per semester. However, in order to graduate in four years a student needs to take more hours than that, typically 15 or more, to be full-time.
Full-time enrollment often requires a specific number of credit hours, usually 12-15 credits per semester, with each class being worth three credit hours. This means you will have to take four to five classes per semester.
Level 1 students must be registered for 12 credits to be considered full-time. A Level 2 (G2) student is any graduate student who has completed 24 graduate credit hours at Binghamton, including approved transfer credits, who does not otherwise qualify as G3 or G4.
Answer. Six (6) credits is always part-time, regardless of the term (fall, spring, or summer). Full-time is 12 credits for most financial aid programs; the Minnesota State Grant requires 15 credits for full-time status.
You are considered a full-time student if you are registered for at least 12 credits. No more than 18 credits may be scheduled each semester without permission from your school. You are considered a part-time student if you are registered for less than 12 credits in a semester.
