The Standards of Learning (SOL) is a public school standardized testing program in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It sets forth learning and achievement expectations for core subjects for grades K-12 in Virginias Public Schools.
Learning standards (also called academic standards, content standards and curricula) are elements of declarative, procedural, schematic, and strategic knowledge that, as a body, define the specific content of an educational program.
The SOL tests measure how well students have mastered the knowledge and skills identified in Virginias Standards of Learning, which outline the states expectations for student learning in core subjects such as English, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies.
Our goal is to create an excellent system of public education that prepares every Virginia student for success. Partnering with students to support them in becoming educated, productive, and responsible citizens is at the core of our mission.
The new School Performance and Support Framework will classify schools as: Distinguished, On Track, Off Track, or Needs Intensive Support which will give parents a clearer understanding of school performance and help them make informed decisions about their childs education.
