USGA Handicap Trends So, if we want to define a good handicap based just on having a lower handicap index than most other golfers with indexes, we answer a handicap lower than 14 for men and less than 28 for women.
This can take the form of 3 x 18-hole rounds, 6 x 9-hole rounds, or a combination of the two. Your handicap is then calculated based on the average of the top 8 of your most recent scores. Every round you play will update your last twenty scores, meaning your handicap rating will also be recalculated each time.
For instance, if you typically shoot 100, your golf handicap will be 28. If you typically shoot 90, your handicap will be 18.
A +7 handicap means the player gets 7 strokes fewer than par. In other words, theyre shooting better than par, which is a sign of a highly skilled golfer.
