If a student receives a failing grade (F, WU, FIN) in a course and then retakes that course and receives a grade of A, B, C or CR, the initial failing grade will remain on his/her academic record, but will no longer be computed into the grade point average.
The absolute maximum number of times that a student may enroll in the same course is three. If the course is required for their major and If they do not pass after three tries, they must change majors or leave the College. The Committees of Course and Standing will rule on appeals to this policy.
If you earn a failing grade (F or FIN) in a course and then retake the course in a subsequent semester, earning a grade of A, B, C, or P, both grades will remain on the transcript. However, the failing grade will no longer be calculated in your Hunter GPA.
To repeat a course for a better grade (D or higher ONLY), please fill out the Course Repeat Form. If you received an F in a course, please register for the course through CUNYFirst. If there are pre-req issues with your course repeat because of a F/W grade, please look here: Registration Override Request.
Your transcript will still show all the times you took the course, but the first attempt will display a grade of X. And youll still only receive credit once. Some schools do not allow their major courses to be replaced, so be sure youve talked to your advisor to confirm.
