Can I Take the PE Exam Without FE in Texas? Typically, the FE exam is a prerequisite for the PE exam. In some instances where candidates have substantial engineering experience and meet specific criteria, the Texas Board of Professional Engineers may waive this requirement.
The decoupling program simply lets you take the PE exam before gaining the required amount of experience needed for licensure. The exams are exactly as they were before decoupling was approved. The content and difficulty level have not changed.
