PTs and PTAs are currently required to fulfill 30 Hours or 3.0 CEUs of continuing education. If it is your first time renewing, and you are renewing before your license expires, you are only required to fulfill 15 hours or 1.5 CEUs. If you are past your expiration date, then you need the full 30 hours.
NAME CHANGE: To notify PTBC of a name change, submit a Request for Name Change online prior to submitting your renewal. Once submitted, the Board will process your request within 14 days. Please allow PTBC six (6) weeks to process your renewal application and payment.
Current PTs must complete 30 hours of continuing education every 2 years. License expires every two years on the last day of your birth month. PTs also need 2 hours of Ethics every renewal cycle.
California CPE requirements In California, all CPAs must complete 80 hours of CPE each two-year renewal cycle; within that cycle, you must complete at least 20 hours each year. This prevents you from getting it out of the way at the beginning of the cycle or waiting until the last minute.
Complete a minimum of 20 hours of CE each license term, including three hours of ethics CE training. The license term is defined as the two-year period beginning on the date the license was originally issued and ends two years later on the last day of the month that the license was originally issued.

Successful completion of the Level 1 course provides PTs and PTAs with 1.6 CEUs* and the Clinical Instructor Credential. Health care providers from other professions are eligible to receive 1.2 CEUs,* but are not awarded the Clinical Instructor Credential.
CONTINUING EDUCATION Every California licensed PT and PTA must earn 30 contact hours or 3.0 CEUs during their license renewal period. Your renewal period begins the day after your license expires or issue date and ends on your expiration date.
