Getting EMT certified in California generally takes between 2 to 6 months, depending on the length of your EMT class, and how long your County EMS Authority takes to process your EMT Application.
Educational Requirements: Current certification or licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and successful completion of a state approved Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) course.

Certified First Responders (CFRs) and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) must train with an approved course provider. Providers are approved by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH). Once training is complete, a certificate is issued.
EMT-B are very limited in their skills and can only perform basic life support functions. EMT-I are permitted to do everything a EMT-B is however they are granted the ability to start IVs and administer some basic medications for Asthma, Cardiac Arrests, and Diabetic Emergencies.
