The rulemaking petition process is the system by which any member of the public can request that the NRC develop, modify, or rescind a regulation. The following pages provide links to the Regulations.gov site. This government-wide, online database includes NRCs public dockets related to petitions for rulemaking.
The NRC uses the Reactor Oversight Process (ROP) to verify that U.S. reactors are operating in ance with NRC rules, regulations, and license requirements. If they are not, the NRC can provide additional inspections and other actions in order to protect public health and the environment.
