Torque Wrench Calibration Standard ISO 6789-2 (Requirements for calibration and determination of measurement uncertainty in hand torque tools) defines the requirements for calibration of torque wrenches as well as other torque measuring tools.
Following these few simple rules will ensure your safety and longevity of your torque wrench: -Read instruction manual before using your torque wrench. -Safety glasses or goggles should be worn at all times when using any hand tool. -Always pull, DO NOT PUSH, to apply torque and adjust your stance to prevent a fall.
The permissible deviation from the set value depends upon the specific tool type but is either +/- 4% or +/- 6% depending upon the type of tool used. When tested to the standard, the force needs to be applied to the torque tool within +/-10 degrees of a right angle to the longitudinal axis of the tool.
Right Hand Rule for Torque To use the right hand rule in torque problems, take your right hand and point it in the direction of the position vector (r or d), then turn your fingers in the direction of the force and your thumb will point toward the direction of the torque.
If you hear a click from the wrench, lift the weight and move it towards the head of the wrench until the clicking stops. If you dont hear a click, then move the weight farther from the head of the wrench and try again. Make a definitive mark after two or three stops in the same location of the wrench.

The 20% rule for torque wrenches is a guideline recommending that these tools be used at between 20% and 100% of their maximum rated capacity to ensure optimal accuracy and longevity. This rule underscores the importance of selecting a torque wrench whose range appropriately matches the applications requirements.
